Tracey Roberts is one of Melbourne's most talented, accomplished and versatile singer-songwriter-pianists. Her jazz-infused folk-pop style original songs mesmerise listeners with richly, melodic musical chordings tinted with blues, cabaret and neo-classical influences. Her intelligently constructed lyrics are poetic and image-laden, often said to inspire and transport one into a place which is all about the experience or story within the song. She is gifted with a dynamic vocal range and exceptional piano-playing sensitivity, theatrically delivering performances with a passion and energy that consistently holds audiences spellbound. 20 years of musical experience includes international touring, TV & radio, regular performances at concerts, functions and festivals.
Her 10th CD, LIVE at the LARK, has just been released with her Quartet a joyful and dynamic album of originals and carefully selected covers. Consummate professional musicianship - class act.
Tracey is also a visual artist and music-colour synesthete (one who involuntarily sees colours and shapes when listening to music). Through her own diverse journey as a musician and performer, and with many years of varied experience in the music arena, Tracey's images are rich, colourful depictions of a multitude of musical themes. Many of her art exhibitions include a musical performance, which is, of course, intrinsically part of her work and she is always happy to discuss her music and artwork and how they are inextricably linked. In 2013 she released her first video music / art release on Blu-ray which is a 30 minute instrumental improvised piano concert and small interviews about music and selected artwork pieces.
She is also the brainchild behind "Your Story in Art" - a collaborative art project with clients creating a visual depiction of their own personal story or story of their workplace, or someone special - encapsulated in a unique, meaningful piece of art, often becoming heirlooms.
Sarah Maclaine constantly delights audiences with her rich, velvety voice, fantastic vocal range, vast and eclectic repertoire, and vibrant stage presence. This engaging and versatile artist performs at major events, many well-known venues around Melbourne, weddings, and performs with some of Australia's finest musicians.
From 1997 Sarah was a regular guest artist on Bert Newton's Good Morning Australia, with over 80 performances on the popular show.
Sarah has performed at Channel Nine's 'The Block' wrap parties as the feature entertainment, The Melbourne International Jazz Festival, The 2006 Commonwealth Games Premiers Dinner, The Stonnington Jazz Festival, exclusive dinners for the AFL, The Melbourne Music Festival, appearances at The Australian Formula One Grand Prix, many performances for the AFL's night of nights - The Brownlow Medal, the Ford Australia Annual Awards dinner hosted by Craig Lowndes and Sony product launches at The Marriott Hotel in Queensland and many, many, more.
"Sarah Maclaine brings classic jazz into the modern world with her beautiful voice. She has the expression of a singer from the past but adds her "today" twist. She is a reminder of the good old days, with an outstanding presence of being in the now. You only need to see her once to be hooked."
- LIBERTY DEVITTO (30 years drums / Billy Joel)
Sarah moves with ease from pop to jazz, blues to r&b.
You name it, she does it!
Inspired by Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson, and George Shearing, Todd plays the piano with uncommon passion and sensitivity, bringing sparkle and originality to many favourite tunes.
Todd became a professional musician at the age of 13 as a bass player in a Hobart-based dinner dance band. As a result, he knows literally hundreds of tunes and is a brilliant request pianist and accompanist. Since 1988 he has been a regular face on the Melbourne jazz scene and often performs with partner and vocalist Sarah Maclaine.
Career highlights include performances for Prince Frederick and Princess Mary of Denmark, as well as prime ministers.
